COOKING LESSONS IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN LOCAL DISHES

At San Isidro we operate our cooking classes more like an open invitation to our guests to accompany us in the kitchen to help prepare one of the lodge lunches or dinners. Depending on your interest level, be hands-on, or simply observe… your choice! This has become an increasingly popular activity at the lodge as it not only teaches our guests about the local products and how to prepare them, but also makes it possible to interact with folks from the surrounding communities that work with us...

FLAVORS OF THE ANDES AND AMAZON

TASTING MENU: 8 DISH SAMPLE GALORE

BOOK OUR “FLAVORS OF THE ANDES AND AMAZON” TASTING MENU:

At an additional cost you can enjoy an eight-course meal and sample the flavors of Ecuador’s mountains and Amazon. If you and your travel companions are interested in this unique option, please let us know.
One of the ways to immerse yourself into a new culture is by trying the local flavors. Our tasting menu will take you through the history and traditions of our Andean and Amazonian cultures. Although the menu varies according to the products of the season, it always includes creative dishes with local, exotic tastes that will indulge your palate. We serve 8-9 small dishes that combine soups, main courses, a sorbet and deserts. Here are some examples of what you will experience:

-Cream of Sumaco oyster mushrooms topped with crispy chonta.

-Fish and heart of palm ceviche marinated with passion fruit, our herbs, chili and a dash of gin.

-Guayusa & naranjilla sorbet.

-Guinea pig kabobs with guava chutney and lupin seed salad, and fiddle-head ferns sauteed in paico (a fragrant local herb) & garlic butter.

-Home made ravioli stuffed with "seco de chivo", covered with a local cheese sauce & pickled agave flowers.

-Trout or tilapia maito, cooked on fire wood, with "sambo" blossoms stuffed with ricotta cheese, mint and figs. Chili creamy dip. Quinua, shrimp, and caramelized pinneaple, au gratin.

-Passion fruit mousse, with paparagua - cinnamon cookies.

-"Muchines" de yuca (yuca fritters) with arasa syrup and guanábana ice cream.

We will recommend the best wine pairing to enhance your meal.

Please make sure to book ahead of time, do not miss this experience!

Handicraft and cooking classes, fishing, and more

No need to leave the kids at home; bring them along on your cloud forest journey and keep them entertained each step of the way with a variety of fun activities designed to spark their creativity and sense of adventure, all the while shoulder-to-shoulder with nature. Fishing a trout out of a rushing Andean stream, painting a ladybug or toucan on just the right shaped rock (the perfect desk ornament!), and making kid-friendly food from local and fresh ingredients are just the beginning. A cloud forest scavanger hunt, with an educational twist, and a swim in the Cosanga River are also on the menu!
